Counselling in Cambridge
I’m a registered BACP counsellor and I use a mix and match style (also known as an ”integrative approach”). This might include looking at practical coping techniques for issues such as anxiety, exploring the past to try to understand feelings and behaviours; and very much looking at how you feel now and what is happening in your world now. The focus is on you, the individual, and what you want to bring to counselling. I don’t judge and I don’t give advice; my role is to guide you to explore what is on your mind and help you better understand what’s going on. I mostly do this by listening and talking, although occasionally I may suggest we try something different to gain new perspectives. I feel it’s important to work at your pace – coming to therapy can be very challenging.
I normally meet clients each week at a designated time and always in the same place. Counselling will last as long as you want it to – some people come for between 6 and 12 sessions, some longer. This is something we would discuss at our initial meeting where we would look at your expectations of counselling and how our sessions would work.
